Now it's Dom talking about EmberAds. ' in general online ads suck'. Can we build online ads that won't make everyone hate us. Idea is paste and go, you sign up and serve relevent ads in 2mins for brands. We will not follow you around the internet. Emberads.com

Blooies is a real-time conversation engine which will keep people on sites and provide content producer with really useful data. For users it becomes a powerful recommendation engine.

Usable is for people doing projects and is the 2nd pitch. Typically project requirements are defined at the start if the project and things get lost or ignored. Putting requirements at the centre if the projects. Www.usablehq.com

Finally Tristan Watson, founder of Love Your Lard which connects food producers and customers. The goal is that it will be as easy to do your shop with these producers as at Tesco online. Has been through an accelerator programme in the north east. Turned them into a team which could build a proper company rather than just run a website. Lost a co-founder with a company of two founders after advertising on Gumtree for him. The accelerator programme was so intense that he realised that wasn't what he wanted to do. Larder Box is an idea of a central hub for a box, like a veg box, but for store cupboard things like pickles etc. Landing page sold 50 boxes at £20 each after featured on Next Web. Scribbly another product with an ipad stylus after making a prototype for own use. Made a video and then 100,000 views later distributors were calling.

Panellist Christen Duong is here from New York and first got into start-ups when she was 17. Did travel location based apps before 4square with Fumble. While working on it got talking to Lonely Planet who wanted her to join to go to Australis - what she called nerd-sniping! It means putting a problem to someone they'll keep trying to solve, depsite not being hired or fed. 'in a company 300 people, you'll get a lot of differrent opinions. Publishers are still not sure about their transition so three years ago they were really not sure.' 5m app downloads in a couole of days over the ash cloud by dropping the price. They did that becuase it was a nice thing to do. Was perfect moment to tweak the strategy. She is now product lead at 4square whe there are diff teams - discovery and monetisation.

Next is Matt Clayton from Mixcloud a small London startup which does podcasting. The four founders all went to Uni together and are friends. Recently launched a self-serve advertising product on the site. They judge all the success on metrics alone. Mixcloud launched in 2009 with no funding out of a container before they moved to a warehouse. Now profitable for a year or so - rejected for funding but just thought they'd do it anyway. No VCs want to touch music enterprises. 'first two years there wasn't a life separate to start-up life. Work and life bleed into each other.'

Paul Smith from Ignite100 is introducing the start-up session and the panellists. First is Martin Bryant fron Next Web who says start-ups in UK healthy, lot of opportunity and everyone talking about it. ' a lot is sponse to poor economic climate but makes it a great time to start something. In the north east a very healthy scene. In Manchester it's hard to find examples of things coming through but since my rant about that a lot of people have come forward and say they are just getting on with it."
